1. Ang Thong National Marine Park

A boat tour to Ang Thong National Marine Park is one of the most popular day trips from Koh Samui and a must-do experience. This full-day excursion can be done via private charter speedboat for a personalized tour or on larger public boats for a more social vibe. A sailing option is also available.

The park consists of over 42 limestone islands, with 41 of them uninhabited, offering jaw-dropping natural beauty. The tour typically includes optional snorkeling, kayaking, and a lunch stop on one of the islands. Don’t miss the famous Emerald Lake, featured in the movie The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio—though the hike up might be too challenging for young children, the beach below offers a relaxing spot to unwind.

2. Koh Tao & Koh Nang Yuang

These neighboring islands are renowned for their exceptional scuba diving spots. The smaller yet beautiful islands offer crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and an abundance of marine life. Popular among divers from around the world, Koh Tao also boasts some of the top diving schools globally.

The boat ride to the islands typically takes about 90 minutes, and the trip lasts 6-8 hours, with a picnic lunch served on board. While a high-speed ferry is available for a lower cost, it takes the same amount of time as a speedboat. Visitors often enjoy exploring the reefs or relaxing on pristine white-sand beaches.

3. Koh Phangan

Located just a short boat ride from Koh Samui, Koh Phangan is a laid-back island, contrasting with the bustling vibe of Koh Samui. While famous for its monthly Full Moon Parties in the southeast, Koh Phangan also offers serene beaches, beautiful waterfalls, picturesque temples, and lush jungles perfect for hiking, zip-lining, and other adventurous activities.

Ferries regularly depart from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan, taking approximately 30 minutes. For those interested in attending the Full Moon Party, it’s wise to book tickets in advance.

4. Koh Mudsam & Koh Taen

For a more tranquil island experience, consider visiting Koh Mudsam and Koh Taen, located southwest of Koh Samui. This 30-minute boat ride from the fishing village of Thong Krut offers a peaceful retreat.

After exploring Koh Mudsam, head to Koh Taen, an uninhabited island known for its forests, marine life, and coral reefs. Nature lovers will enjoy the island’s four nature study trails. Private or local long-tail boats are popular for the journey, adding an authentic touch to the adventure.

From tranquil beaches to vibrant island experiences, Koh Samui and its nearby islands are sure to provide memories that last a lifetime!
