Ever found yourself totally charmed by a fluffy cat in a video or at a friend's house, but had no idea what breed it was? You're not alone—we've all had that moment. With so many breeds out there, it's easy to lose track of who's who in the feline world.

Luckily, a cat breeder in Shanghai, known as Caesar Cattery, did a nationwide survey in China and came up with a list of the Top 10 Most Popular Cats.

Whether you're looking to adopt or just curious, we're diving into what makes each of these cats special—from personality to looks, and even which one likes water!

#1 Blue and White Cats

These cats aren't a single breed, but a popular type of mixed-breed cat in China, created by crossing two or more purebred cats. The “blue and white” name comes from their coat color—usually a cool grey mixed with white.

They're sturdy, healthy cats with strong immune systems and a solid build. What's amazing is that they have a longer-than-average lifespan—about 14.3 years—so they'll be around for many cuddles and memories.

#2 Scottish Fold

You've probably seen these cute round-faced cats with folded ears on social media. But did you know only about 30% of them actually have the signature folded ears? The rest have straight ears but are just as lovable.

Scottish Folds can have either long or short fur, and they're famous for being gentle, friendly, and calm. They've been super popular in recent years and often rank high in breed popularity surveys in China.

#3 American Shorthair

These cats are playful, curious, and full of energy. Originally used as working cats to catch mice, they love to stay active. Their classic look is a shiny silver coat with bold black stripes, but in reality, there are over 80 different color patterns!

If you want a fun and social companion, American Shorthairs are a solid pick.

#4 Ragdoll

Big, fluffy, and with deep blue eyes—Ragdolls are like living teddy bears. Kids especially love them because they're super chill and love being held.

They take about four years to fully grow up, which is longer than most cats. But once they do, they become large, soft-hearted cats with a calm and slightly silly personality.

#5 The Blue

Elegant and quiet, the Blue has a slim body and a sleek, bluish-grey coat. But behind that cool look is a warm heart—these cats are super loyal and love spending time with their people.

They're smart, gentle, and often follow their owners around like a little shadow.

#6 Golden Shaded

This breed looks like it walked straight out of a fairytale. With big round eyes, a short nose, and a soft golden coat, the Golden Shaded cat has a sweet and expressive face.

They're smooth-coated, which makes grooming easier, and they're known for their gentle and quiet nature.

#7 Long-Haired Golden Shaded

A fluffier version of the Golden Shaded, this one comes with a majestic, full coat and a slightly royal vibe. It's one of the older breeds and even appeared in the world's first cat exhibition!

Rare color varieties like “blue gold” and “lilac gold” make this breed even more unique.

#8 Bengal

Imagine a house cat that looks like a mini leopard—that's the Bengal. With stunning spots and stripes, it turns heads wherever it goes.

Despite the wild appearance, Bengals are friendly, active, and super smart. They love to play, climb, and surprisingly—they like water! So don't be shocked if yours jumps into the tub.

Just make sure they have lots of space to roam and things to climb, like cat trees or shelves.

#9 Norwegian Forest Cat

This majestic cat is built for winter. Originating from the forests of Norway, it has a thick, warm coat and a strong body. It's not a common sight in many cities, so some Lykkers might not have seen one in real life!

They're calm, intelligent, and get along well with both humans and other pets. If you like a big, cuddly cat that handles cold weather like a champ, this one's for you.

#10 British Shorthair (Blue)

British Shorthairs used to be all the rage, especially the “British Blue” with its dense bluish-grey fur. Although its popularity has cooled slightly in recent years, it's still a classic favorite.

These cats are calm, affectionate, and wise beyond their whiskers. They also come in many different coat colors and patterns now—not just blue.
