Koh Mook is a hidden gem in Thailand, an unspoiled island with narrow dirt roads that lead to breathtaking water caves and secluded beaches.

Here, you can experience some of the most stunning sunsets in the country.

Despite it's natural beauty, Koh Mook has largely escaped mass tourism. The island retains its authentic village charm, where you can enjoy a delicious meal for less than 100 THB (around USD 3) and immerse yourself in a local lifestyle without being surrounded by crowds of tourists.

Things to Do on Koh Mook

Koh Mook is a small island packed with enough activities to keep you entertained for 2 to 3 days. From exploring awe-inspiring sea caves to relaxing on pristine beaches, this island offers a mix of adventure, culture, and tranquility.

1. Emerald Cave (Tham Morakot)

The Emerald Cave is Koh Mook’s most iconic attraction. To reach it, you swim through a small entrance in a towering limestone karst, following a dark tunnel about 100 meters long.

2. Big Cave

Big Cave is located on Koh Mook’s northern west coast. While it was once known for vibrant soft corals and snorkeling opportunities, much of the coral has unfortunately died, likely due to rising water temperatures caused by global warming.

3. Explore the Village

Koh Mook’s charm lies in its authentic local lifestyle. The fisherman’s village along the east coast is a highlight, with small stilt houses lining the waterways and local stores selling delicious southern Thai dishes.

4. Sivalai Beach (Ao Kham)

Sivalai Beach, located on a peninsula of pure white sand, is one of Koh Mook’s most stunning spots. The beach is surrounded by crystal-clear water on both sides, making it an ideal place to relax, swim, and soak in the beauty.

5. Charlie Beach (Haad Sai Yao/Farang Beach)

Charlie Beach is situated on Koh Mook’s southwest coast, about a 30-minute motorbike ride from the main village. While the nearby Charlie Resort is abandoned and a bit run-down, don’t let that deter you. The beach itself is gorgeous, with soft sand and incredible sunset views.

6. Koh Kradan Day Trip

Why choose between Koh Mook and Koh Kradan when you can see both? Koh Kradan is just a 20-minute longtail boat ride west of Koh Mook, making it an easy and worthwhile day trip. The coral reef off Ao Nieng Beach is some of the best snorkeling.

Where to Eat and Drink on Koh Mook

Koh Mook’s dining scene is as authentic as the island itself. Here are a few of our favorite spots:

Hilltop: A cozy restaurant near Charlie Beach. The owner is friendly and chatty, though the menu can be limited.

Koh Mook City Center: The best seafood on the island. Treat yourself to freshly grilled squid or fish for just a few dollars.

Charlie Bar: While we didn’t eat here, it’s the perfect spot for a sunset drink. Located on a hill above Charlie Beach, the views are incredible.

Ma Kin Ni: A small restaurant in the main village, close to the pier. The southern-style shrimp curry is a must-try, and their fruit shakes are a refreshing treat.

Facilities on Koh Mook

Koh Mook is a relatively untapped tourist destination, so facilities on the island are more limited compared to larger, more developed spots. However, this is part of it's charm! Here are some tips to help you navigate the island:

Motorbike Rental

Motorbikes can be rented for 250 THB per day, plus fuel, from the first shop on the right near the pier.

Money

There are no traditional ATMs on Koh Mook, but you can withdraw cash at the PK Minimart in the main village. The process is unconventional.

Healthcare

For minor injuries, such as scrapes or grazes, there’s a small medical clinic in the main village. However, for serious injuries or conditions, you’ll need to head to Trang town, which is about two hours away.
