2024-12-10 17:56:03

Stubai Valley just south of Innsbruck in Austrian Tyrol is a stunning region with much to offer year-round.

Initially known for skiing, our summer visit revealed breathtaking landscapes and numerous activities, making it a hidden gem for adventure and family-friendly experiences.

This article highlights the best places to see and things to do in Stubai during summer, although it's not exhaustive. We were invited by the Stubai tourism board but enjoyed our stay so much that we extended it to explore further. Stay at local accommodations offering the free Stubai Super Card, which includes cable car rides, public transport, and local attractions.

Main Areas of Stubai Valley:

• Stubai Glacier

• Schlick 2000

• Elfer

• Serles

Stubai Glacier

The Stubai Glacier (Stubaier Gletscher) is a must-visit, offering eternal snow and adventures year-round. At the Top of Tyrol summit (3,210 m), enjoy 360° views of the Alps, including 109 peaks. Nearby, visit the Schaufeljoch Chapel or dine at Austria's highest restaurant, Jochdolohle (3,150 m). The Ice Grotto, a man-made tunnel under the glacier, is another highlight, showcasing stunning ice formations.

Schlick 2000

For lush summer landscapes, visit Schlick 2000. The Stubaiblick viewing platform offers breathtaking views without strenuous hiking. The Educational Nature Trail is an easy hike leading to Panorama Lake, perfect for families with educational panels and playgrounds along the way.

Serles

The Serles area features family-friendly attractions like the summer toboggan run, a thrilling ride spanning 2.8 km (1.7 miles). Serles Park, with its water playground and hiking trails around the reservoir lakes, is ideal for a day out.

Elfer

Easily accessed from Neustift, the Elfer area is less crowded and offers steep hiking paths and via ferratas. The Sundial, the largest walk-in sundial in the Alps, provides great views. Short hikes to Karalm or Pinnisalm are recommended for stunning scenery.

Wild Water Trail

The Wild Water Trail follows the Ruetz River and features impressive waterfalls. The Grawa Waterfall, the widest in the Eastern Alps, is easily accessible and worth a visit.

Where to Stay in Stubai

Stubai Valley is compact, allowing exploration from various villages. We stayed at two hotels offering the Stubai Super Card, saving significantly on attractions. One was Sepp & Hannis Suiten im Dorf, near Neustift’s amenities; another was Apart-Pension Wasserfall, a family-run option closer to nature.

For an unforgettable experience in Tyrol, Stubai Valley offers diverse activities and stunning landscapes perfect for all travelers.
